Our community
Welcome to our home! We are located in the upbeat neighbourhood of “Montecito” in Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada (voted Canada’s best run city in 2009 by Macleans magazine!) We are surrounded by beautiful mountains in a serene, natural setting yet our central location makes it quick and easy to get to the heart of the city. “Burnaby Heights” is the bustling multicultural, downtown core of North Burnaby where one can easily sense the welcoming, yet tight-knit community http://www.burnabyheights.com.
Aside from the Burnaby Heights commercial area, there are many other shopping amenities nearby such as: “Kensington Plaza”, “Lougheed Mall”, and “Brentwood Mall”. “Metrotown” has over 450 stores and is just a short distance away. Malls and plazas are easily accessible by bike, car, bus, or skytrain. Medical facilities are also close by including: a walk-in doctor’s clinic at Kensington Mall and Brentwood Mall and Burnaby General Hospital.
Our house is located at the base of Burnaby Mountain and Simon Fraser University is only a 5-10 minute bus or car ride straight up the hill. The closest bus stop to our house is just steps away from our house and is on a main bus route. BCIT is about a 10-15 minute car/bus ride away. You can walk to the skytrain in approximately 10 minutes which will take you to other parts of Burnaby as well as the cities of Surrey, New Westminster, downtown Vancouver, and Richmond (including the airport).
The potential for recreation in Burnaby is endless! If you are an outdoor enthusiast, you can cycle or walk in the peaceful refuge of the local Burnaby Mountain trails, or play a round of golf at the Burnaby Mountain Golf Course (see the list of recreational facilities on this site). Burnaby Mountain Scenic Park, Burnaby Lake and Deer Lake are very close by and have extensive walking paths where you can view local wildlife. (There are numerous other indoor and outdoor facilities in Burnaby listed on this site).

General Rules and Regulations
These “rules” and “regulations” are not meant to be punitive. They are based on common sense! We believe that being respectful of others living in the house means:
- keeping the common areas of the house clean (bathrooms, kitchen, hallways, and laundry). Cleaning responsibilities can be worked out amongst the guests. The common areas need to be cleaned weekly.
- maintaining a quiet environment: not playing loud music or turning up the volume of the t.v too loudly. Laundry should be done at a reasonable hour (12 noon – 5 pm).
- washing and putting away your dishes, pots, and pans immediately so that others have access to them and so they don’t attract insects or rodents
- removing your personal items from the washer and dryer immediately after use so that others can use the laundry facilities.
- cut extra keys for your bedroom or the front door.
- park vehicles in the driveway. Street parking is available.
- remove smoke alarms or tamper with carbon-monoxide detectors
- smoke or do drugs in the house (casual drinking is okay but “partying” is not permitted)
- light candles as they are a fire hazard
- sneak people into your bedroom (will result in immediate eviction as it jeopardizes the safety of others)
Overnight guests
Casual overnight guests are not allowed but we will do our best to accommodate close friends for a short duration. Please make arrangements with the home owners (at least three weeks prior to your guests arrival) if you are considering having an overnight guest. There is a nightly charge for each guest. Please inform the landlords and negotiate a price prior to your guest’s arrival.
Security deposit
We require a security/damage deposit to guarantee your room. This damage deposit is refundable in full if the following conditions are met:
- You move in
- When you leave nothing is damaged, broken, or missing
- Your room and common areas are cleaned (left as clean as when you arrived. We will give you a checklist prior to your departure)
- Your duvet is dry-cleaned (if you are using our bedding) and the receipt is attached
